The aim of the project was to promote Bulgarian intangible cultural heritage abroad and to build new cultural connections. The project was implemented in the period 23–27 October 2025 and was funded by the National Culture Fund under the “Mobility” Programme 2025, in the field of “Dance and Performance.”
The Folklore Dance Ensemble “Gaitani” took part in the largest international folklore festival in Africa – Marrakech Folklore Days – held in the city of Marrakech, Morocco. The participation was by invitation of the festival’s Chairperson. Over the three festival days, the ensemble presented a rich repertoire, including authentic folklore from the Shumen and Dobrudzha regions. As part of the event, the dancers also gave a concert for the Bulgarian community in the city of Marrakech.
The participation of Ensemble “Gaitani” in the international festival Marrakech Folklore Days represents an important cultural mission, through which Bulgaria is presented to an international audience with its unique intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, the participation had a positive impact on the professional motivation, stage presence, and artistic development of the dancers and musicians of Ensemble “Gaitani,” providing them with opportunities for performance, inspiration, and further development of their creative skills. The ensemble plays the role of a cultural ambassador, demonstrating the richness, authenticity, and diversity of Bulgarian folklore.
